Local RelocationFor Relocations within Massachusetts where the distance between the old and new address is 50 miles or less, movers generally charge based on hourly rates for a fully equipped moving van and professional movers. For relocations that are over 50 miles the transportation costs are generally based on the actual weight of the goods and the mileage. The weight of the goods is determined by weighing the moving van at a certified public scale. The van is weighed empty, then your goods are loaded and the van is reweighed. The difference of the two weights determines the weight of your goods. If packing and/or unpacking service is requested, the cost is generally based on the number of cartons involved. Hourly rates vary depending on the number of men and trucks that are needed to properly transport the goods in an efficient manner as well as your needs as a customer. Sometimes extra charges will apply for servicing appliances (washers, dryers, refrigerators, etc.), pool tables, grandfather clock service, electrical or plumbing services, bulky articles (pianos, boats, go-carts, motorcycles, autos, trailers, farm equipment, and other extra-large items) or other items requiring special preparation or handling. Please ask your moving representative for more details on these services, especially on a weight basis move. |
